Sleepy time gummies Recipe

Sleepy time gummies

Did you know cherries are an amazing medicinal food? Cherries are one of the only food sources that contain melatonin. They also contain tryptophan which is a precursor for melatonin, along with a large amount of polyphenols & anthocyanins which have antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties. This makes cherries a fantastic food to help aid in sleep.

Summer has been full of socialising, and my sleep schedule is a little out of whack, so I’ve made some sleepy time gummies to help me settle down and have a restful slumber.

Have 1-2 gummies after dinner or an hour before bed to help deepen your sleep.

It should be noted that gummies are something to have in addition to adequate sleep hygiene, they aren’t a silver bullet. If you’ve been struggling with sleep and it’s affecting your day to day, it might be a good idea to book in with a naturopath.

Sleepy time gummies recipe

Makes 50 gummies

Ingredients:

2.5 cups of tart cherry juice

1.5 cups of strong sleepy time tea (I used my deep sleep blend)

1 cup of gelatine

1 tbls of raw honey

Method:

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan on low to medium heat. Stir until the mixture is smooth & the gelatine has compelling dissolved.

  • Transfer into silicone ice cube trays. Alternatively you could transfer into a lightly greased glass bowl or baking dish and cut the gummies once they have set.

  • Leave in the fridge to harden for 2 hours

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks

Note:

If you are want to make a vegan version you can swap out the agar agar in place of gelatine. Just note that the texture won’t be the same. It might be a good idea to set it in a baking tray if you’re using agar agar as a substitute, as i’m not sure how it will set in the ice-cube trays.
